The Council actively pursues the interests of its members on a wide range of issues before the General Assembly in the Statehouse.
Over the years the Council has successfully supported legislation eliminating the inventory tax and the corporate gross receipts tax. Eliminating these onerous taxes has significantly eased the tax burden for retailers in the state. Other notable issues which the Council has played a significant role of behalf of its members include opposition to the “Beer Baron” bill, increasing the credit card interest rate ceiling to 21%, establishing the sales tax collection allowance, passage of generic drug legislation, and providing for civil recovery in theft cases.
Throughout its history, the Council has been and continues to be an aggressive and articulate advocate of retail interests.
The purpose of the Indiana Retailers Political Action Committee is to promote good government and the interests of retailers within the State of Indiana by raising funds for and contributing funds on a bi-partisan basis to desirable Indiana state political committees, Indiana state political parties and candidates for Indiana state offices, including the offices of senator and representative in the Indiana General Assembly. Please note that contributions are not tax deductible.
