Legislative Victories of the Indiana Retail Council
A team of registered governmental affairs experts voices the interests of
merchants before the members of the Indiana General Assembly. Over the years
the Indiana Retail Council has been instrumental in securing the following
victories for Indiana retailers:
- Inventory tax relief
- A civil recovery law
- Tough bad check laws
- The one percent (1%) retail allowance for sales tax collection
- Twenty-one percent (21%) annual retail credit card interest rate and credit
account late fees
- Revisions to the Pharmacy Practice Act
- Defeat of legislation establishing criminal penalties against retailers for
point-of-sale scanner inaccuracies
- Passage of legislation prohibiting the sale of baby food and formula,
cosmetics, and over-the-counter drugs at flea markets
- Defending a retailer’s ability to sell tobacco responsibly. The Council also
strongly encourages educational programs for retail clerks in the sale of
tobacco, including sponsorship of the We Card program
- Changes to the alcoholic beverage law allowing drive through windows at drug
stores and increased quantity limits for sales of beer and wine
